The Four Gentlemen is a Korea-exclusive collection created in collaboration between Italian luxury writing instrument maker Montegrappa and Korea.

Inspired by the plum blossom, orchid, chrysanthemum, and bamboo, the collection offers a contemporary interpretation of the qualities these four plants traditionally represent: integrity, dignity, perseverance, and unwavering resolve. In Korea, they are closely associated with the spirit of the seonbi—scholars who remained true to their principles even in the face of adversity.

The collection consists of four designs, each devoted to one of the Four Gentlemen. Following the first edition, Plum Blossom in Snow, we now present the second edition, Orchid in Quiet Elegance.

The orchid reveals its presence in deep, quiet places through its subtle fragrance and graceful form. Its long, upright leaves and the flowers that bloom gently between them express a restrained beauty rather than outward splendor. In Korea, this quiet elegance has long been compared to the spirit of the seonbi, who valued a disciplined mind and an upright way of life over external display.

Orchid in Quiet Elegance expresses the spirit of the orchid in the Korean Four Gentlemen tradition through a mysterious palette of colors. Flowing shades of green evoke the orchid’s long leaves and composed bearing, while blue-violet tones unfolding between them reflect the rare and captivating color of its flowers.

Just as a rarely seen flower feels all the more precious, true dignity is often found in a beauty that is not openly displayed. Delicate pearlescent details shimmer across the body, suggesting the quiet inner beauty that reveals itself subtly from one moment to the next.

The custom resin was handcrafted exclusively for this collection by American artisan barrel maker Turnt Pen Co., then shaped and finished in Italy using Montegrappa’s renowned craftsmanship. Due to the handmade nature of the material, the colors, patterns, and flow of the resin vary from pen to pen, giving every fountain pen a distinctive appearance of its own.

Only 40 pieces of each color will be produced worldwide. Like an orchid whose grace is felt without the need for display, Orchid in Quiet Elegance captures a quiet beauty born from inner strength, upright character, and restraint.
